The second of three LPs recorded by the 1955-56 Gerry Mulligan sextet before it broke up, this fine out-of-print set features such excellent players as baritonist Mulligan, valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer, Zoot Sims on tenor and either Jon Eardley or Don Ferrara on trumpet. Highlights include “Makin’ Whoopie,” a Duke Ellington medley and “Westward Walk.” Excellent music from one of the top “West Coast Jazz” groups; this band was actually based in New York.
