Chet Baker – She Was Too Good To Me

99,99

Probably one of my favorite Baker albums, having been a fan of his for years now. If you are looking for good trumpet solos with an awesome line-up of jazz musicians, than this LP is for you. If you don’t like his voice, then I would suggest another album such as The Italian Sessions, since there are 4 vocal tracks with trumpet solos to follow. Looking at the line-up, you’ll be very familiar with many of the personnel on this list: Ron Carter, Paul Desmond, DeJohnette and many more. Chet’s solo ideas are quite tasteful as usual with a great rhythm section to back it up.

Some people have criticized this album for having too many vocals. I personally enjoy his gentle and intimate voice, so it was a pleasant listen. With that said, my favorite tracks had to be Autumn leaves, Tangerine and It’s You Or No One. These tracks are strictly instrumental and show you some of Baker’s chops (especially on I’ts You Or No One). As a whole band, the best track has to be Autumn Leaves. Bakers solo to start is very lyrical and is followed by a smooth and silky solo by Desmond. The rhythm section is incredibly in sink with the horns and adds so much to their solos.
