MCA Special Products’ God Bless the Child is a solid budget-line collection of highlights from Billie Holiday‘s recordings for Decca. Although this is far from a definitive overview of either Holiday or her stint at Decca, it’s nevertheless a good, informative, enjoyable sampler, thanks to the inclusion of such classics as “God Bless the Child,” “Lover Man (Oh, Where Can You Be?),” “Them There Eyes,” “T’Ain’t Nobody’s Business If I Do” and “Crazy He Calls Me.” For curious listeners on a budget, this is worth its inexpensive price, since it offers a good, representative taste of Billie Holiday‘s output from Decca.
