It’s wonderful when, after several minutes of meandering improvisation, Chahine whips out the ol’ folk melodies and starts jiving away. It’s fun – you could dance to this! But the improvisations are a bit of a dampener on things. It’s not that Chahine is a bad improviser at all, but the formula for the pieces on Oriental Bouquet does get a repetitive and about halfway through the second side this has outstayed its welcome. Still worth checking out all the same!
