Study in Brown’s real importance is in proving exactly how tragic of a loss Clifford Brown’s early death (just a few months after this record’s release) was to the music world. His status as one of the great trumpeters of any era is plainly evident on his playing throughout, but especially on “Cherokee,” “Sandu,” and “Take the ‘A’ Train.”
